Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

In 2017-18 we look forward to another year of rewarding sporting events for ISL athletes. We will be specifically hosting the NECIS U14 Soccer and Volleyball Tournament in November and the NECIS Swimming competition on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 March. All the seasonal fixture dates for the 2017-18 season are available on the website calendar.

As we close off this year it is time for me to sign off as Director of PE and Sports at ISL. After nine years in the role, I would like to welcome/congratulate Ben Smith who will be taking over as Head of Sports. He will remain as a PE teacher and will take on the coordination of all sporting fixtures and NECIS tournaments from August 2017. During my nine years we have seen tremendous growth in the school. With that growth has come improved facilities (new LS Gym, Courtyard Gym, Field Floodlights and new Fitness Room) additional competitive NECIS sports of Cross Country, Softball and Golf. The most pleasing result however is to see the volume of students that participate in our many sport options at ISL. All students who commit and are proactive in a sport season are offered to play in a home game for the school and we have always been able to field full NECIS squads for the Tournaments. Some NECIS schools have low numbers at JV and V level with the participation / commitment challenges for Gr11 and Gr12 students due to the timing of examinations etc. It has been especially pleasing at ISL to see student commitment to sport and especially the large amount of high school girls involved in sport. Long may it continue.

I would publicly like to thank Antoinette Faucheux de Bergerac for her assistance in coordinating sports over the last three years. I know Antoinette will be invaluable to Ben has he starts up his new role and together they take ISL sports forward.

We wish all the ISL community an enjoyable summer vacation, stay fit, healthy and safe wherever the holidays may take you and come back rearing to go for the new sports year 2017-18. Go Eagles.

Athletes of the Year – Gr12

Congratulations to Maylee Goiot and Ben Potgeiter for being selected by the coaches and PE faculty as Female and Male Athlete of the Year. Ben was a leading senior player on the varsity basketball and soccer teams. The Female Athlete of the Year went to Maylee Goiot as leading player on the volleyball team and a driving force behind the swimming team in a home NECIS Competition. We want to congratulate both of these student athletes and thank them for all their work, sweat, tears and passion whilst competing for the Eagles. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

ISL School Golf Day 1-Jun

Congratulations to our NECIS champions golf team that competed in the ISL golf day recently at Kikuoka Golf Club against seven other teams. The boys Neil Penning (8hcp), John-Glenn Binsfeld (13.9hcp), Stefan Rojas (30.5hcp) and Andrew Rojas (34.5hcp) completed 18 holes with a team score of Brut 68pts and Net score of 59pts. They won the tournament on a count back when John-Glenn holed his second shot on the 18th hole in front of the other waiting teams and a loud cheer. Congratulations.

Reminder - Gr2-Gr12 PE Uniform 2017-18

May we remind all parents that we have a compulsory Gr2-12 ISL PE and Sports uniform, that students are expected to wear for PE classes. Please see our policy document on the school website for more details, which also has information on purchasing items and a sample order form for your reference. New stock will be available at ASPORT Wickrange from early August but orders can be placed online at any time. The compulsory PE uniform will help parents and students alike prepare themselves for PE lessons and also represent ISL clearly and professionally as a school when we travel with our sporting team ambassadors.

Yours in Sport,

Neil Spencer
