We are proud to announce that ISL has been selected as one of the three finalists in the IMS Luxembourg Awards 2024 in the Sustainability Teams category! The IMS (Inspiring More Sustainability) Awards celebrate the best sustainable development practices in Luxembourg, with a focus on People, Planet, Prosperity, and Sustainability Teams.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 3 October 2024, at PwC Luxembourg, from 18:00 to 20:00. In addition to the extensive documentation we prepared as part of our nomination, a short film featuring ISL’s journey toward sustainability will be shown during the ceremony. The film was recorded in the Upper School Library and includes insights from Phil Keech (Head of Sustainability), Dr. DJ Condon (ISL Director), and Grade 12 student Daniela, Chair of the Student Energy Vision Team.
In the film, Phil Keech highlighted ISL's collaborative, community-focused approach to sustainability:
"At ISL, our innovative approach to sustainability creates the foundation for us to maximize the input and impact from everyone in our community. Our framework reflects our mission and values, with Nature-Based Learning, Student Leadership, and Service Learning at its core. Our students inspire us, and our inclusive, diverse, and collaborative team structures allow us to confront the challenge of sustainability together as a whole school community."
Grade 12 student Daniela, Chair of the Student Energy Vision Team, also shared the significant role students play in driving sustainability efforts at ISL:
"The Student Energy Vision Team is the voice of student leadership and the power source of school sustainability. We represent all students and play a crucial role in the school’s sustainability and regenerative action plans. I feel like I have a voice; I am learning a lot; and I am making a real difference by taking action."
ISL Director Dr. DJ Condon reflected on the school’s unique student-led sustainability framework:
"We’ve developed a sustainability framework that is different from what you may see in other schools, and I have no doubt that the student-led team approach we’ve taken has accelerated our progress toward a more sustainable mindset on a system-wide level. The combined impact of Nature-Based Learning, Service Learning, and Student Leadership is profound, and I am delighted with the achievements of the Student Energy Vision Team so far."
The criteria for the IMS Awards include:
- The impact of the practice
- The innovative nature of the action
- The exemplary and replicable nature of the initiative
- The level of implementation of the practice
