Shadow Puppetry Exploration

Guest Puppeteer artist Manon Gautier has recently been working creatively with the Grade 6 theatre classes to introduce them to the wonderful world of shadow puppetry.

She has been engaging the students with a little background and history of this ancient craft as well as getting the students to explore how effective the concept of creating shadows can be to produce dramatic effects.

The classes have all been reading a series of folktales written by the Grimm Brothers, such as Hansel and Gretel, Little Red-Cap and The Hare and The Hedgehog, and they will be encouraged to develop their own shadow puppet characters to create a short performance as a work in progress. This has been a very rewarding experience for the Grade 6 students and they have thoroughly embraced the practical elements of these workshops.
