Higher Education and Careers Office Programmes

Our Higher Education and Careers Advisors are here to help each student to uncover and powerfully communicate their unique aspirations, personal and academic strengths, and passions.

At ISL, we believe in walking alongside our students as they navigate their journey towards higher education and career exploration. Whether it is in one-on-one sessions, vibrant group discussions, or through the use of cutting-edge tools, empowering students to shape their academic and vocational paths.

The Higher Education and Careers team works with students and parents from Grade 10 onwards, assisting in finding ISL’s future graduates the perfect fit for university, college, in gap-year planning or other post-secondary plans. The Higher Education and Careers Office Programmes include:

Regular Advising

The counsellors schedule regular meetings with Grade 10, 11 and 12 students together with their parents to discuss post-secondary school options. Individual student meetings continue throughout the higher education research and application process.

Career Services

Our comprehensive career services for high school students encompass crafting compelling academic CVs, mastering the art of writing persuasive motivation letters for student jobs or internships, and facilitating partnerships with local organisations to provide valuable work experience through job shadowing, traineeship and internship opportunities.

University Fairs

In collaboration with local embassies, our team organises three major university fairs on the ISL campus. Each fair is dedicated to a specific geographic region: USA, the UK and Europe. These fairs take place annually in the Autumn term and offer an outstanding opportunity to meet admissions representatives from a variety of institutions.

"Cuppa Counselling" Parent Coffee Mornings

In the second part of the school year, the Higher Education team meets with interested parents for monthly coffee mornings to delve into various  topics in higher education and provide a platform for exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. These sessions offer a valuable opportunity to stay updated on the latest developments and share insights within our community.

Higher Education Testing

Standardised tests are a common requirement for admission to certain university systems, and the role of the Higher Education Office is to provide guidance, resources, and support to help students navigate this aspect of the application process. The counsellors coordinate the following standardised tests that take place at ISL: the  PSAT (once a year) and the digital SAT (4 times a year). The TOEFL, the IELTS and other internationally recognized  language certificates can be obtained in Luxembourg. For more information click here.

Monthly Newsletter

Students and parents are strongly encouraged to read the ISL Higher Ed Herald, our monthly newsletter, as it contains a wealth of information related to career and post-secondary planning. The ISL Higher Ed Herald is shared with parents and students by email and via Schoology, and represents our Office’s main communication channel for important reminders about upcoming events, country-specific higher education tips, competitions and super-curricular opportunities, as well as standardised testing schedules.

Guest Speakers & Workshops

Representatives from colleges and universities worldwide are invited throughout the school year to speak to students and parents. Lunchtime workshops are organised to increase students' awareness of the world of work and tertiary education opportunities.

Classes within High School Cascade

Grades 10, 11 and 12 will have regular sessions in their schedules focused on higher education and specifically designed to prepare students for the next steps in their academic journey. These interactive and workshop-style lessons emphasise critical skills such as time management, study habits, and self-advocacy, ensuring that students are well-equipped to pursue their higher education goals with confidence.

Alumni Connection

The Higher Education and Careers Team and the Alumni Office are tight partners in creating a human ISL community that goes across graduating classes: through organising alumni academic and career panels, facilitating connection and alumni mentorship between Grade 12 students and recent graduates sharing similar paths.
