Digital Learning & Library | Lower School Library

Early Years to Grade 5

The Lower School Library is located on the first floor of the Lower School building and is open to ISL parents, students and staff from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily except Wednesdays, when closes at 3:00 pm.

The library houses a wide selection of resources including:

  • Over 35,000 diverse fiction and nonfiction titles including books in languages other than English, magazines and audiobooks, all searchable online via the Lower School Library catalogue.
  • Through its interactive Lower School Library Website, the library provides a dynamic virtual space which allows students 24-hour access to materials which facilitate learning such as digital databases, e-books, curated online resource collections for specific subjects as well as digital  reading for pleasure resources.
  • A professional collection for staff in support of teaching and learning.
  • Desktop computers and ipads for student use.

Lower School students are encouraged to foster their passion for literature through story times, book talks, regular visiting authors and by the integration of reading into all aspects of their school experience.

Children are supported on their journey to becoming information literate global citizens through the teaching of relevant library research and information literacy skills. Students in Preschool and K1 also have their own satellite libraries for library lessons and borrowing.

Library staff collaborate with classroom and specialist teachers, as well as the Digital Learning Coaches to support information and digital fluency instruction both in the library and in the classroom, in addition to maintaining the collection in support of the curriculum.
