Library
The libraries at ISL are integral to the school’s focus for teaching and learning and serve the whole community.
Our library teams have a wealth of experience, forming a vibrant community of educators and researchers who help create a passion for reading and inquiry. Library staff actively participate in curriculum development and delivery of the teaching programme with a particular emphasis on consolidating/embedding research skills, while ensuring our students and staff become effective and ethical with Information Fluency in addition to promoting a love of reading.
As active partners in the learning taking place at ISL, parents are encouraged to become members of our libraries. Membership provides access to both the Upper and Lower School collections of over 60,000 books, periodicals, and professional titles, in addition to access to current and relevant online research resources and databases. Because of the international nature of our school, our libraries have many resources that support multiple languages and learners.
Library Philosophy
- To ensure that everyone in our community has access to the resources and space they need to grow intellectually and creatively within and beyond the curriculum.
- To inspire ethical, productive citizens and thinkers who are defined by their capacity to effectively find, critically analyze, evaluate and produce information and innovative ideas.
- To foster a life-long love of reading and learning which helps expand understanding of what matters in our world.
Digital Learning
The International School of Luxembourg supports all learners to be global digital citizens and responsible users of digital ecosystems and environments.
Digital fluency is a key aspect of the learning journey in the Lower and Upper School. Together, the Digital Learning Coaches and the Librarians support learners to build capacity with information and digital literacy.
In a rapidly changing world, ISL students and staff explore and engage with Digital Fluency and Information Fluency as critical competencies to support lifelong learning. The International School of Luxembourg has adopted the DQ Institute framework to guide, mentor, and support the learning of digital fluency in a purposeful and authentic way throughout units of learning, and with our community at ISL.
