Learn more about Ryan Collins, Alumnus (Class of 2018)

Where are you living now?
Georgetown, TX, USA

What did you do after you left ISL?
I attended Southwestern University, graduating a year early with two Majors.

What did you study at University?
Business and German

What are you doing now?
I am now a business owner. My business is called Safety First Training LLC, where we provide lifesaving training (CPR/First-Aid/AED, Lifeguarding and Basic Life Support (BLS)). I also am a payroll and IT specialist at District Six in Georgetown Texas.

Do you think that your time at ISL helped you pursue this? If yes, how?
100%. Particularly my business courses at ISL with Dr. Mulli helped me have a baseline understanding of business and particularly business types. I also learned a lot about marketing, which has significantly helped me not only in college but also in creating and starting my own business.

What advantages has studying at ISL given you?
ISL has given me many advantages, particularly with my choice of college in the USA. I was accepted to almost every college I applied to. I also have had the advantage of being able to graduate early at college due to my IB credits that transferred. The work ethic ISL instilled in me allowed me to take about 20 credits each semester as well.

What advice would you give students to help them make the most of their time at ISL?
Take as much in about the culture as possible! I’ve found that being able to not only talk about the school, but also the culture of Luxembourg has allowed me to show multiculturalism which is significant in today’s job market.

Were you involved in any clubs/activities at ISL? What did you enjoy about them and what benefit do you think they have for students?
I was involved in the Business Club and Swimming. I enjoyed both of them a whole lot. In the business club, I particularly enjoyed creating the plan for our cryptocurrency. In swimming, I enjoyed the team atmosphere and being able to travel across Europe to compete.

Describe some of the things that ISL does above and beyond teaching and learning:
ISL does an amazing job of preparing students to live in a diverse world of many cultures and ethnicities. Instilling the values of respect, equality and personal responsibility.

How did your time at ISL help shape you as a person?
ISL has shaped me to be an internationally minded business owner. I think more about the impacts of business affairs on the world as a whole now.

What do you think is unique about ISL?
ISL has amazing teachers who deeply care about seeing their students succeed.

If you could thank a teacher or staff member, who would it be?
Dr. Mulli for sure. He was a great role model and teacher. His classes have significantly helped me in achieving what I have now.

Describe ISL in 5 words:
