Learn more about J.C. Timberlake, Alumni (Class of 1973)

Where are you living now?
Music City Nashville Tennessee

What did you do after you left ISL?
Returned to Ohio with my family with DuPont as a freshman in high school

What did you study at University?
Architecture, French and Tourism Food & Lodging Administration

Do you feel your ISL education prepared you well for University?
Yes the private DuPont School kept us up to date and maybe even a bit ahead. When you are in the same class with only 5 students for 5 years you receive a lot of attention and guidance. When I returned to the US high school seemed much easier…our European and American teacher were demanding; i.e., Professor Hofferling and Madame Hubert

What are you doing now?
I have been in the hotel business since 1975, majority as a Director of Sales and as a General Manger of various resort and business hotels (Hilton)

Do you think that your time at ISL helped you pursue this? If yes, how?
Yes, travelling to almost every country in Europe multiple times, being taught French, some Luxembourgish and German and growing up with the locals in Hesperage for 3 years and 2 years in Belair

What advantages has studying at ISL given you?
Growing up as a Third Culture child at ISL (DuPont School to us original students) you see things from a far, from a European perspective (when in Luxembourg live as the Luxembougeous live)

What advice would you give students to help them make the most of their time at ISL?
Study hard, stay focused, choose a path as soon as possible, enjoy the times and friendships you will have….learn the language and immerse yourself into the culture

Were you involved in any clubs/activities at ISL? What did you enjoy about them and what benefit do you think they have for students?
Not really, DuPont and the Luxembourg government were just trying to be sure we did not lose a step during our 5 year stay in the Duchy. I did enjoy football with
my foreign friends in Hesperage and played that sport in college and taught my four children to play/enjoy foosball

Describe some of the things that ISL does above and beyond teaching and learning?
From afar it appears they balance education, activities, clubs and sports to help round out the person….very important…I was very active back home in Ohio and made sure my children were later on

How did your time at ISL help shape you as a person?
Growing up a Third Culture Child is who I am today….a very travelled, very fortunate citizen of the world

What do you think is unique about ISL?
That fact that so much has been created from such humble beginnings

Describe ISL in 5 words
je suis un ancien élève fier
