Summit - Overview
What?
The International Education & Sustainability Leadership Summit (IESLS) at the International School of Luxembourg, follows on from successful programmes at UWC South East Asia; Bishops Diocesan College, Cape Town; Berlin Brandenburg International School; Dollar Academy, Scotland; Jerusalem American School; and, the International School of Amsterdam.
Led by an expert faculty drawn from the worlds of sustainability, education and development, the IESLS will bring together students, teachers and leaders from national and international systems of education as well as policy makers, leaders in business & industry, climate change experts, and sustainability influencers.
Designed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Sustainability Education, the conceptual framework of the IESLS offers the opportunity for strategic engagement, intense reflection, and collaboration around leadership, approaches to teaching & learning, curriculum design, and infrastructure.
"Incredibly well-organised, informative and inspiring summit with high quality presentations, group participation and actionable points for every individual - the inclusion of students makes it most unique! We underestimate how vital these gatherings are. I would recommend to anyone in the educational profession."
Principal, The Netherlands
Why?
The current economic, environmental and social trends are dangerously unsustainable. The planet and its people face a crisis of unprecedented scale, urgency and complexity and education is part of the problem – but it is also part of the solution.
What contribution can and must the education sector play in responding to the current polycrisis? For schools, there is a choice to be made: do they want to be the mirrors or the change agents of society?
The education sector needs to reflect hard, and fast, on what students learn, how they learn and where they learn and the standards it sets in terms of its culture, leadership and modelling the way.
"Outstanding, thought-teasing event. Fantastic opportunities to meet up with others striving for the sustainability goal in the complex environment of education, which often glosses over this critical aspect of preparation for life in a very uncertain future."
Sector Leader, Sustainability
_______
"Seeing how teachers, staff and students across multiple schools are driving sustainability is impressive and promising for our future workforce and for our future."
Sector Leader, Industry
What For?
You will become better equipped to lead your institution in developing new strategies for responding to the challenge of incorporating sustainability thinking into the curricula and the governance of schools. You will feel more confident in en- abling your organisation to be a change agent of society and a leader in its approach to education for sustainable development.
You and your students will form part of an active alumni of IESLS Luxembourg graduates - a unique network of thought leaders in sustainability locally, regionally and globally who inspire communities of change wherever you are.
"An opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals, to share solutions and discuss the very real challenges, is a breath of fresh air. We came away invigorated, enthused and with solid plans."
