Middle School - Grades Six to Eight
Students in the Middle School are making the transition from childhood to adolescence and are passing through a critical phase in their intellectual, emotional and physical development. Within the Upper School we have developed a middle years programme specifically to meet these needs.
Our core middle school teachers offer instruction in English, social studies, science and mathematics. Specialist teachers provide instruction in French, German, art, music, drama, information and communication technology and physical education. Working within a flexible block schedule, this team provides opportunities for interdisciplinary and co-operative learning. Students frequently exhibit their understanding through displays and demonstrations. For example, an evening science fair allows students to present their projects to parents and fellow students and to demonstrate their understanding of scientific enquiry. Such activities allow students to build the confidence they need as young adolescents and as future high school students.

Students are placed in language classes according to their level of proficiency. Students whose command of English is not yet sufficient for mainstream classes are placed in English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes and EAL support classes. Placement in these classes is based on past performance and teacher recommendations. Several groups within our school's international community organise mother tongue language instruction after school and we encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity when possible.
