Early Years Programme

Children ages 3 through 5 are enrolled in the Early Years Programme. By creating a secure and caring environment in which all children are accepted as unique individuals, we nourish and stimulate their natural curiosities and desire to learn. We believe that children learn best when learning experiences and information are relevant to their lives.

A child-centred environment, which encourages active learning through exploration and play, is essential. In the Early Years Programme we consider that the development of social and physical skills is as important as the development of a child's academic potential. Our comprehensive programme addresses the various needs of young children and prepares them for the grades to follow. Children are introduced to early literacy and early numeracy concepts and skills as well as experiences that encourage them to investigate the world around them and to make connections with what they already know.

Pre-School

The objective of the Pre-School Programme is to provide a warm, caring and stimulating educational environment in which three year old children feel safe, secure and challenged both as individuals and as members of a cooperative social group. Play for early years students is the primary means through which social and physical skills and intellectual concepts are developed and extended. While the majority of the school day is spent with the homeroom teacher, students in Pre-School receive specialist instruction in music and physical education. In-class specialist English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is provided to limited English speaking students.

Children who are three years of age by 31 August of the current school year are eligible for Pre-School. The programme is in session five mornings per week. Classes begin at 08:25 and end at 12:20.

Pre-School Afternoon Programme

Pre-School children are eligible to attend the Pre-School Afternoon Programme from one to four afternoons per week. The programme operates from 12:30 to 15:20 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Qualified teachers and teaching assistants are responsible for the programme.

Kindergarten (K1 and K2)

While the majority of the school day is spent with the homeroom teacher, kindergarten students receive specialist instruction in music, physical education and French or English as an Additional Language (EAL). In-class and withdrawal specialist EAL support is provided to limited English speaking students.

Children who are four years of age by 31 August of the current school year are eligible to attend the K1 programme and children who are five years of age by 31 August may enrol in the K2 programme. The Kindergarten Programme is in session from 08:25 to 15:20 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesday afternoons the K1 and K2 classes are dismissed at 12:20.
